Cervinia is one of the most iconic resorts in the Italian Alps. Set at the foot of the Matterhorn, at around 2,000 metres above sea level, it’s famous for its panoramic pistes, high altitude and the international link with Zermatt.
Before becoming one of Europe’s best-known ski destinations, this area was called Breuil, a name recalling the damp meadows and pastures crossed by mountain streams. Tourism development began in the 1930s with the construction of the road up from Valtournenche and the first ski lifts.
